The Language Centre at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University became the sole recipient in the Chinese mainland of a British association's rigorous international accreditation.

The British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP) recently accredited XJTLU's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) modules. Currently, only twenty-nine universities around the world have obtained the accreditation.

This accreditation means that EAP modules delivered by the XJTLU Language Centre are of high quality in course management, staff arrangement, and resources and course design, enabling students to improve their research capabilities and abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The Language Centre delivers EAP modules to Year One and Year Two students, depending on their academic and English language qualifications.

BALEAP was established in 1972, and its founding marked the increasing professionalism of academic English teaching in British universities. The association conducts regular and comprehensive inspections of academic English courses in various universities to ensure that their courses meet the established quality and level.

In addition, it also provides career development support for academic English teachers and researchers, and holds academic conferences to promote the new ideas and research in academic English teaching.
